Wintering Trumpeter Swans on Seedskadee NWR (24006721186)

Image of Trumpeter Swan

Description:

Description: A portion of the Green River on Seedskadee NWR remains open during the winter. Releases from Fontenelle Dam above the Refuge help to maintain open water even in the coldest winters. The open water, combined with abundant food resources of submerged aquatic vegetations roots, tubers, and some stems and reduced disturbance during winter months, provides one of the better overwintering sites for trumpeter swans in Wyoming. Trumpeter swans that have nested in Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana are joined by trumpeter swans from Canada to winter here. Photo: Tom Koerner/USFWS. Date: 24 December 2015, 14:23.
