Blue Poison Dart Frogs
Description:
Description: English: Blue poison dart frogs (Dendrobates azureus). While this particular species is toxic and is called a "poison dart frog", they are not actually much use in war or hunting (some other frogs, and the plant poison Curare, are much better!) They are just poisonous enough to paralyze (sometimes fatally) predators stupid enough to eat them. In captivity their toxin levels are low. This is because they need to eat their favorite bugs to be able to secrete the poison - and outside their natural environment these bugs are not available. Date: 1 June 2009, 13:48:27.
