Description:
Iris petrana is a rare one growing in the north-eastern Negev (southern Israel) and in Edom mountains (southern Jordan). It is variable in flower colour and occurs on loamy semi-desert. It suffers from overgrazing, but is protected in one reserve in Israel. the plant in the picture is a pale one, most plants have dark purple flowers.
