Aster (Aster) is a genus of perennial herb in the family Asteraceae. They are native to Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Montenegro, Slovenia, France, Luxembourg, Greece, Albania, Turkey, Western Australia, Germany, Canada, Morocco, Czech Republic, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Vatican City, San Marino, Italy, Monaco, Macedonia, Serbia, Andorra, Gibraltar, Belgium, Alaska, Channel Islands, Armenia, Romania, Hungary, Gruziya, Poland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, The Contiguous United States, Moldova, Spain, Nakhchivan, Crimea, and Croatia. They have achene. Flowers are visited by American Snout, Clouded sulphur, Gray Hairstreak, and Monarch. Individuals can grow to 0.85 m.
