I took a break by a pond and decided to look for herps. Well I saw some things swimming in the water that looked like fish. Well they were swimming and looked funny for fish and there was no streams, riveres, wash offs that led to the pond so I decided to catch one. It turned out to be a fairy shrimp. Boy was I jumping for joy when I found that out.

It was found in a sample of water in my high school pond. This picture was taken under a microscope. It looks almost like a small translucent flea. Photos taken by Emma Kaiser

The "Lago di Pilato" is a lake in a deep u-shaped valley below Monte Vettore, a mountain in the Italian Central Apennines. There are two basins that sometimes are connected. When I took the picture, in June 2007, the two basins were not connected. The two basins were connected in June 2009 (?), see this picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/33434902@N04/3624776024/ by Fabrizio Di Meo.
