Description: Millettia pinnata Synonyms: Pongamia pinnata, Pongamia glabra, Derris indica, Galedupa pinnata. Common names: Pongam Tree, Indian Beech Tree, Honge Tree, Panigrahi, karanja. Medium to large size tree can be seen growing in Brisbane. Pea flowers in inflorescences and large light-green deltoid (heart shaped) leaves. Deciduous. It is native to humid and sub-tropic environments (Asia, West Africa, Australasia..), it is thought to have originated in India. They say it is common along waterways or seashores, with its roots in fresh or saltwater. In Australia normally (!) flowers November-December. Credit to 'Tony Rodd from Sydney' for ID help.
