Phyllacanthid acantharea, spicules without apophyses, of similar or dissimilar (2-4 longer) lengths; speicules basally with 4 flat extensions, cruciform in cross section; cell body with thick capsular wall, spherical, oblong or cushion-shaped; endoplasm with various inclusions; axopodia arise from ectoplasmic cortex between spicules; ectoplasmic cortex formed of polygonal pieces connected by elastic junctions.
