Description of Acinetactis

Biflagellated cells, rounded bodies measuring about 10 µm, giving rise to fine stiff pseudopodia with extrusome-like structures. The flagella arise from the same face of the cell, two contractile vacuoles. Few species, all from freshwater. Arms may be withdrawn from the anterior part or the whole cell when swimming. Type species: A. mirabilis Stokes, 1886.
