Cryptobranchus alleganiensis (Hellbender) is a species of amphibians in the family Cryptobranchidae. They are listed as near threatened by IUCN and in cites appendix iii. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to The Nearctic. They are solitary, nocturnal carnivores. Individuals can grow to 740 mm. They have sexual reproduction.
