Colonies are massive or form thick plates. Corallites are funnel-shaped, immersed in the reticulum, with the opening of the corallite being at the base of the funnel. Tuberculae and papillae are absent. Colour: usually pale brown, pink or cream but may be brightly coloured, sometimes with bright-blue or green polyps partly extended during the day. Abundance: seldom common but relatively distinctive (Veron, 1986).
