Description: A trip down to Dungeness in Kent on Saturday night proved to be the coolest conditions we have experienced for a while, with clear skies, bright moon and misty air coming from the sea. As you can imagine it wasn't great and the moths were few and far between, but I did manage a few new ones for me. Yellow Belle, Pale Grass Eggar, Antler Moth, Celypha cespitana, Aroga velocella and Cynaeda dentalis were all new for me. There are still some Bactra's to confirm and a few unidentified micros to sort out. All in all despite the catastrophic weather I was pleased to pick up some new ones. Date: 7 September 2014, 10:08. Description: After feeling pretty ill lately I still managed to set just the one trap last night and I am so glad I did, with what looked like a great night weather-wise, by the morning it was still warm with a little dew. In the trap was the usual pickings including a few new for year's Drinker, Willow Beauty, Uncertain, Beautiful Hook-tip (all trap regular's at this time of year) then my heart skipped a beat.. a Delicate sitting at the bottom, a super migrant and one I have only ever seen abroad before and that was as far away as Slovenia! though this moth is more likely to have come from France. Further rummaging through the trap, yielded not 1 but 2 extra new moths for me. The first I looked at as a Shears, but no hang on.. it's too brown, Tawny Shears it was! The 3rd I took with me to my CR to confirm that indeed it was my very first Wood Carpet. I guess double checking all of those Common Carpets had finally paid off! 3 ticks in a night was rather overwhelming I must say. Description: A new for garden species and a great catch Friday night and it was lights on! I had decided to do a field trip on Saturday night (more about that to come soon!) Some lovely moths were attracted to the trap including some good records for the garden such as another Small Clouded Brindle (a different marked specimen this time), a garden first Tawny Shears (unfortunately washed out) and the beautiful (uncommon for me) Enarmonia formosana. The weather continues to be warm but very windy and most nights are clear with a full moon at present.not perfect mothing conditions but it's still been pretty good.
