They are native to Libya, Italy, New Zealand Exclusive Economic Zone, Algeria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Greece, Russia, Egypt, Ukraine, Tasman Sea, Macedonia, France, Tunisia, Turkey, Romania, Morocco, Great Australian Bight, Portugal, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Australia, and Spain. Adult Mediterranean Mussel form marine reefs. Dead Mediterranean Mussel form shallow marine sediments. Individuals can grow to 276 mm. They have sexual reproduction.
