North and mid-Atlantic, Gibraltar, Azure, Farer and Scotland Islands, central Arctic Basin, Spitzbergen, east and west Greenland
Oceanic abyssal species. In the Arctic occurs at depths of 20-2500m, in other areas below 1000m
Female: Forehead has a protruding tip (if looking from the side). The rostral filaments short. A1 exceeds the end of the furca by distal 5 segments. The abdomen is 2.5 times shorter than the cephalothorax, the genital segment is equal in length to the combined length of next 2 segments and half of the caudal rami. The anal segment is somewhat longer than the previous segment, the caudal rami are somewhat shorter than the combined length of the last 2 segments. Caudal rami 5 times longer than wide and strongly divergent. Anal somite and furca naked on dorsal side, coarsely covered with fine hairs on ventral surface. The distal segment of the exopodite of P1 with 2 outer spines. The outer spine of the first segment is massive and curved, its tip extends beyond the end of the last segment. Exopodite of A2 5-segmented, somewhat longer than the inner branch. The inner chaeta of the second segment of the P5 exopodite reaches the last third of the distal segment - it is massive and coarsely serrated on the outer edge.
Male: Abdomen contains 5 segments, left A1 geniculate. P1 has the same structure as in females. Ventral side of caudal rami bearing long hairs. P5 slightly asymmetrical - the distal segment of the right appendage with 2 spines of unequal length, the inner distal edge of the second basipodite with a slight protrusion which carries a row of dull cerrations.
Female: 4.03-5.90
Male: 3.70-5.19
