Pterois volitans (Common Lionfish) is a species of ray-finned fishes in the family scorpionfishes. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to India, Fiji, Seychelles, New Caledonia, Pitcairn Islands, South Korea, Vietnam, The Philippines, Taiwan, Mauritius, Australia, Japan, Vanuatu, French Polynesia, Guam, Indonesia, Northern Mariana Islands, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea, Christmas Island, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Norfolk Island, Mozambique, Maldives, North Korea, Palau, and Sri Lanka. Individuals can grow to 45.7 cm. They have sexual reproduction. They rely on swimming to move around.
