This species is distinguished by the following characters: body deeply ovoid; caudal fin with a pair of black blotches, arranged between the third and fourth fin rays from upper- and lowermost rays in the fin; the ocular-side pectoral fin is not elongate, and no sexual differences in its length; gill rakers are very short, not serrate (Ref. 126076).Description. D 81-87; A 61-65; pectoral-fin rays on ocular-side 10-12, blind-side 8-10; caudal-fin rays 3 + 11 + 3; pelvic-fin rays on ocular-side 6, blind-side 6; lateral line scales 40-45; gill rakers 0 + 5-7; vertebrae 10 + 14 (Ref. 126076).

體長卵圓形；兩眼均在左側；背緣突起。頭大；吻短鈍。眼間隔極寬而凹陷，雄魚具吻棘。口小；上頜骨稍短，上頜延伸至下眼前緣下方；上頜具二行尖銳錐狀齒，下頜具一行；腭骨無齒。鰓耙短不呈鋸齒狀，第一鰓弓之鰓耙數0+5-8。眼側被中大弱櫛鱗，盲側被圓鱗；背鰭與臀鰭鰭條均被鱗；眼側具側線，盲側無側線；側線鱗數37-43。背鰭正常，具軟條數83-89；臀鰭正常，具軟條數62-66；左右腹鰭不對稱；胸鰭等長或短於頭長；尾鰭尖圓形。體淺淡褐色，體側具許多暗色點及環紋散在，側線直走部具2-3個污點，各鰭皆具黑點，尾鰭第3與第4鰭條間有一對大形黑斑；雄魚盲側除了頭部為淡黃白色外，餘為淡褐色，雌魚全為淡黃白色。
棲地

主要棲息於大陸棚砂泥底質或石礫底質床上，白天不太活動，靜靜地平貼在砂泥底床上，到了晚上才出來覓食，主要以底棲無脊椎動物或小魚為食物。多變的體色能融入周遭景物，藉以欺敵。
