They are native to Amazônia, Puerto Rico, Cerrado, Central America, Ceará, Distrito Federal, South America, Amapá, Mata Atlântica, GoiáS, Pará, SãO Paulo, Martinique, Caatinga, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Pampa, Espirito Santo, Santa Catarina, Pantanal, Rio De Janeiro, Maranhao, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Acre (Brazil), RondôNia, Guadeloupe, Rio Grande Do Sul, Roraima, Bahia, and Mato Grosso. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Apis mellifera. Individuals can grow to 4.9 m.
