They are native to Cerrado, GoiáS, Alagoas, Rio Grande Do Sul, Tocantins, Amazônia, Pantanal, Piauí, Santa Catarina, Pampa, Puerto Rico, Bahia, Acre (Brazil), SãO Paulo, Pará, RondôNia, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Espirito Santo, The Contiguous United States, Maranhao, Paraná, Rio De Janeiro, Mata Atlântica, and Mato Grosso Do Sul. They have simple, broad leaves and white flowers. Flowers are visited by Syrphid fly, Pereirapis, and Chrysagria duodecimpunctata. Individuals can grow to 1.4 m.
