Philippi (1845 Z. f. Malakozool.: 147) did not figure this species at the time of the original description. In his later publications of the "Abbildungen un Beschreibungen ... Typical for Tonna tenebrosa (Hanley, 1860) is the fasciole, and more in particular the flat, often brown part on the front. Specimen from coll. C. Vos from South Africa, 132mm.
