Potentilla kelseyi Rydberg, sp. nov
Biennial; stem stout, 6-7 dm. high, glandularvillous, branched above and leafy; leaves ternate, the basal and the lower cauline ones with petioles 8-12 cm. long and glandularvillous; leaflets obovate or cuneate-obovate, 3-5 cm. long, incised-crenate with large ovate teeth, thin, sparingly pubescent on both sides ; the upper stem-leaves with shorter petioles; stipules lance-oblong, acute or obtuse, 1-1.5 cm. long; inflorescence rather short * f antTcompact ; hypanthium rather flat in fruit, 5 mm. wide ; bractlets and sepals subequal, 5 mm. long, linear-lanceolate ; petals obcordate, apparently white, about half as long as the sepals ; pistils rather few for the group.
Type collected in the vicinity of Helena, Montana, in 1891, F. D. Kelsey (herb. N. Y. Bot. Gard. ) .
