Genus Fusitriton COSSMAN, 1903

Type species: Triton cancellatum LAMARCK, 1816 (= Fusitriton magellanicus magellanicus [RÖDING, 1798]).

Description: Shells 100-160 mm, moderately thin, high-spired, fusiform, with inflated whorls and a cancellate sculpture consisting of rather weak spiral cords and stronger axial ribs, nodules present at the intersections. Varices irregularly spaced, often low. Aperture ovate, outer lip and columella smooth, except for a single blunt ridge high on the parietal wall. Siphonal canal medium-sized, slightly curved.

Basic colour white, spiral cords sometimes tinged pale yellowish brown, aperture white.

Operculum oval.

Periostracum yellowish brown, with variably dense and long bristles.

Remarks: All species of Fusitriton are adapted to the cold-water regions of the northern and southern hemispheres.
