Description: Familia: Solanaceae Juss. Species: Solanum mauritianum Scop. Original publication details: Delic. Fl. Faun. Insubr. 3: 16, pl. 8 (1788). Synonyms: Solanum tabacifolium Vell.; Solanum verbascifolium L. var. auriculatum (Aiton) Kuntze Common names: morella delle Mauritius (IT); Tobacco Tree (EN). Location: Bevera (Municipality of Ventimiglia, IM, LIG, IT). Elevation: 37 m (120 ft). Date: October 19, 2019. Status: casual alien species. Chorotype: S-Amer. Note: Solanum mauritianum Scop. is native to the Atlantic coasts of South America (southern Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Northern Argentina) but it is naturalized in many areas with tropical, subtropical and warm-temperate climate in North America, Africa and Eurasia. In Liguria Solanum mauritianum Scop. is recorded for a single location at Bevera (Municipality of Ventimiglia, Province of Imperia). Its population consisted in a great specimen (about 4 m in tall) and of an age no less than 10 years old and by some young plants (aged between 1 and 2 years). The oldest specimen bear fruits that ripen, her seeds germinate frequently but most of the plantulae do not survive the winter. Date: 19 October 2019, 07:34. Source: Solanum mauritianum.
