Slo.: hrastov ostrigar - Habitat: Predominantly Fagus sylvatica forest with some Picea abies, steep mountain slope oriented north, shallow soil layer over rocks, calcareous ground, fairly cool place with no sun during winter months, in shade, partly protected from direct rain by tree canopies, average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 7-9 deg C, elevation 480 m (1.600 feet), alpine phytogeographical region. - Substratum: Large, standing, alive, but wounded Fagus sylvatica. - Comments: Fairly aged fruitbody! Growing solitary out of wounded trunk about 1.5 m (7 feet) above ground. Cap almost glabrous, dimensions: 18 x 20 cm (7 x 8 inch), beige (oac855); stipe with white fibers, 9 cm (3.5 inch) long and 3.8 cm (1.5 inch) in diameter, almost white (oac857); gills beige-light ocher (oac814); mass almost 400 g (moist state), SP white; smell mild, pleasant, mushroomy. - Spores smooth. Dimensions: 13.3 (SD = 1.3) x 4.4 (SD = 0.4) micr., Q = 3.1 (SD = 0.3), n = 30.
