Goeletapis peruensis is the only currently described species of the genus Goeletapis. Rozen (1997) described the species and genus, and well as what is known about the biology of the bee. This bee is 6.6 - 8.8 mm long, and brown and black in coloration. It has been collected from sites in Western Peru, north of Lima and north of Trujillo. Goeletapis peruensis was found foraging on plants from the family Solanaceae, including Exodeconus maritimus, E. prostratus, and the native cotton plant Gosssypium barbadense. Exodeconus flowers opened from noon to 3:00 pm at the study site, and bees were only seen flying during this time. Males flew rapidly from flower to flower, presumably in search of mates. Males typically straddled the opening of flowers, interpreted as part of mate searching, but sometimes entered the flowers, presumably to drink nectar. Females always entered the flower, and were observed collecting nectar and pollen. No nests were found. No information on social biology was presented, but one female forager was dissected and found to have a developed oocyte.
