Brown, 1975 PDF: 9, refers Ponera ruficornis to Platythyrea: as “nomen dubum et oblitum Emery, 1911e PDF: 28.” This compound specimen is probably best regarded as an unidentifiable taxon, incertae sedis in Ponera.].Ponera ruficornis, Spin. This species is about the same size as the Ponera contracta of Europe, which it also closely resembles.
