Langsdorff's Coral Snake

Distribution: S Colombia, N Peru, NW Brazil, Upper Amazon, S Venezuela, S Ecuador
Type locality: œHabitat in adja-centibus flumini Japurᝠ[Brazil or Colombia, Rio Jápura from its mouth (Brazil, 03°08'S, 64°66'W) to Araracuara (Colombia, 00°24'S, 72°17'W)] according to the original description and Vanzolini (1981).

Upper Amazon region of southern Colombia, northwestern Brazil, northern Peru and adjacent Ecuador.

Lectotype: ZSM 2250/0 according to Golay et al., 1993, Endogly. Venom. Snakes World 478pp.[172].

Type-locality: Río Japurá, Amazonas, Brazil

M. ornatissimus (Jan, 1858) has sometimes been recognized as a subspecies of M. langsdorffi, Cunha and Nascimento, 1982, Bol. Mus. Para. Emílio Goeldi, Nova Sér. Zool. 116:1-17[8], did not recognize subspecies of this species.
