Description: Native, warm season, perennial, slender, erect, rhizomatous herb to 30 cm tall. Leaves are to 30 cm long and 1–3 mm wide arising in distinct tufts along an extensive rhizome. Flowerheads are spike-like racemes usually 2–15 cm long and < 1 cm wide. Flowers are about 2 mm long, on short pedicels. Perianth segments about 1 mm long. Fertile carpels 3, alternating with 3 sterile ones. Fruit are globose and about 2 mm long. Flowering is during warmer months.
