Costus scaber (Spiral Ginger) is a species of shrub in the family Costaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Tocantins, Cerrado, Amazônia, GoiáS, Pará, Bahia, Maranhao, Minas Gerais, Roraima, RondôNia, Acre (Brazil), Mata Atlântica, Espirito Santo, Mato Grosso, and Amapá. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Rufous-breasted Hermit, Golden-tailed Sapphire, Pale-tailed Barbthroat, and Long-tailed Hermit. Individuals can grow to 3 m.
