Some other species (mostly from Central Asia) have been studied in St. Petersburg, and can be recommended for cultivation. Species marked * are new to cultivation. The short descriptions give stem height (in cm), colour of the flower and flowering period. The flowering period is given as it is in the wild (sometimes in the alpine zone), and it can be otherwise under other environmental conditions. The appropriate climatic zone and special requirements to soil are also indicated.

Tulipa vvedenskyi

provided by wikipedia EN

Tulipa vvedenskyi is a species in the genus Tulipa, in the lily family. It is found in Tajikistan and perhaps Uzbekistan. Some authorities have it as a synonym of Tulipa alberti.[2] Its cultivar 'Tangerine Beauty' has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.[3] 'Tangerine Beauty' has large bright red flowers flamed with soft orange,[4] and it blooms Mid-May.[5] Another cultivar is T. vvedenskyi 'Orange Sunset'[6]

Etymology

Tulipa vvedenskyi was first published by Dr. Zinaida Petronava Botschantzeva (a botanist from Kazakhstan) in Bot. Mater. Gerb. Inst. Bot. Zool. Akad. Nauk Uzbeksk. S.S.R. Issue 14, Edition 3 in 1954.[7][8][9]

Then in 1971, Iris zenaidae was first found by Alexei Vvedensky and he named the iris (Juno zenaidae) after Dr. Zinaida.[10]
