Die Gelbschnabel-Zwergohreule (Otus icterorhynchus) ist eine Eulenart aus der Gattung der Zwergohreulen. Sie kommt im tropischen Afrika vor.
Sie erreicht eine Länge von 18 bis 20 Zentimetern und hat ein Gewicht von 61 bis 80 Gramm. Die weiß und schwarz gefleckten Federohren sind ziemlich auffällig. Die Gefiederfärbung variiert individuell zwischen einer hellen und einer dunklen Morphe. Bei angelegten Flügeln bilden die weißlichen Fahnen der Schulterfedern ein helles Band. Die Unterseite trägt auffällige weiße Flecken. Die Augen sind gelb, Schnabel und Wachshaut gelblich beige. Die hellbräunlichen Beine sind bis zum Ansatz der bräunlich rosa Zehen befiedert, die Krallen matt weiß mit grauer Spitze.
Die Gelbschnabel-Zwergohreule bevorzugt tropische Tieflandregenwälder bis in 1.000 Meter Höhe. Sie bewohnt auch Lebensräume mit einer Mischung aus Wald, Busch- und Grasland. Ihre Stimme wird als langgezogener Pfiff beschrieben, der im Abstand von mehreren Sekunden zu hören ist. Die Nahrung ist nicht bekannt, sie besteht vermutlich wie bei anderen Zwergohreulen vorwiegend aus Insekten.
Die wenig erforschte Art kommt lückenhaft von Liberia über Gabun bis zum Osten der Demokratischen Republik Kongo vor. Während die Nominatform O. i. icterorhynchus Liberia, die Elfenbeinküste und Ghana bewohnt, werden die mehr rotbraunen, auf der Brust weniger gestrichelten Exemplare aus Kamerun, Gabun und Demokratischer Republik Kongo der Unterart O. i. holerythrus zugeordnet.

The sandy scops owl is thought to be basal in the lineage of the genus Otus, along with the Sokoke scops owl (Otus ireneae), but there has been no genetic material for testing from the sandy scops owl.[3] In addition, some authorities consider that the subspecies of sandy scops owl should be treated as two different species.[4]

A small owl which has an overall pale rufous colour, a plain face, a pale yellow bill and yellow eyes. The pale stripe along the shoulders is quite obvious. The adults are pale rufous brown, finely spotted with white and barred with buff. The underparts are paler and more rufous with buff bars and white spots on the belly and vent. The tail, flight feathers and greater upperwing coverts are rufous barred with black. Length is about 15 cm (5.9 in), and wingspan is 45 cm (18 in).[6]
The sound is a long whistling "twooo" which descends in pitch.[6]
The sandy scops owl has a scattered distribution across the African tropical rainforest ; it has been recorded from Guinea, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic.[1]
The sandy scops owl occurs in lowland evergreen forest, open canopy forest and scrub, or in open forest mosaic land.[7]
The sandy scops owl is rarely seen and little is known about its habits. It is probably crepuscular and insectivorous[7] feeding largely on grasshoppers and crickets. The breeding season is probably during February and March.[1]
