Newmanella Ross, 1969, is a tropical Caribbean and Western Atlantic genus of shallow water tetraclitid barnacles. The shell is essentially unpigmented, with 4 wall plates. Shell wall with two or more rows of tubes. Operculars with articular ridge of tergum covering apex of scutum. Scutum with crests on rostral depressor muscle pit.
Type Species: Balanus radiata Bruguiere, 1789, OD (Ross, 1969:242).
Type Locality: unknown, living.
Diagnosis: "Orifice occluded in part by scutum and by apical portion (occludent margin) of tergum; scutum wider than high, rostral depressor muscle crests absent; occludent margin with 5 or more, small, oblique teeth; articular ridge of tergum substantially overlying apical portion of scutum; intromittant organ lacking basi-dorsal point" (after Ross and Perreault, 1999:2).
Comments: Shell and opercular plates are essentially unpigmented. Three species are assigned by Ross and Perreault;N. radiata (Bruguiere, 1789),N. hentscheli (Kolosvary, 1942), andN. kolosvaryi Ross and Perreault, 1999. A possible undescribed species was noted by Spivey, 1976, from Fort Randolph, Panama.
Newmanella has no known fossil record.
