Hesperia attalus is a year-round resident in the eastern United States and in a separate population in northern Texas/Arkansas/Missouri (Scott 1986). Habitats are oak/pine barrens, woodland meadows and prairie. Host plants are a few various species of grasses including Aristida virgata, Leptoloma cognatum, Bouteloua curtipendula caespitosa. Eggs are laid on or near the host plant. There are two flights with approximate flight times June 1- early July and Aug.1- Sept. 15 in the northern part of the range, and multiple flights all year in the southern part of the range (southern Florida) (Scott 1986).
