Colonies. With a daily growth rate of 2.5-3.5 mm, white or greyish brown, often with a white aerial mycelium, and forming "chlamydospores" which are spherical, obovate or clavate, colourless or pale brown, rather thick-walled, 7-14 × 6-9 μm, apically or laterally on aerial hyphae. Ascomata. Maturing within 10-15 days, olivaceous or pale grey in reflected light, superficial, ovate, pyriform or ampulliform, with a conical or cylindrical ostiolar beak, 100-170 μm diam., 200-300 μm high, with a dark wall of angular, 6-12 μm cells; ascomatal hairs seta- or whip-like, often with a swollen basal cell, tapering, straight or flexuous, apically often branched or circinate, 3-4.5 μm broad near the base, regularly and closely septate, brown, nearly smooth or punctulate. Asci. Clavate, stalked, 8-spored, evanescent, 27-40 × 10-13 μm. Ascospores. Limoniform, bilaterally flattened, umbonate at both ends, brown and rather thick-walled when mature, 6.5-8.5 × 6-7.5 × 5-6 μm, with an apical germ pore. Paraphyses. Not observed.
