Colonies. With a daily growth rate of 3-3.5 mm, zonate with a pale aerial mycelium and slightly yellow reverse. Ascomata. Embedded in the aerial mycelium, pale grey in reflected light, spherical or ovate, 75-115 μm, with a distinct, 20-27 μm wide ostiolar pore and a wall of angular, flattened, thin-walled, brown, 8-12 μm cells; producing asci and ascospores within 10 days; ascomatal hairs flexuous, wavy or repeatedly spirally coiled, delicate, pale brown, septate, finely verrucose, 1.5-2.5 μm broad, rather long. Asci. Clavate, stalked, evanescent, 32-44 × 11-14 μm, 8-spored. Ascospores. Ovate, bilaterally flatter, rather thick-walled, eventually grey brown, 9-11 × 8-10 × 5-7 μm, with a germ pore at the attenuated, often slightly apiculate end.
