Diagnosis: gape steeply inclined, at about 45° to horizontal (Ref. 55898).Description: dorsal and ventral body profiles about equally convex and symmetric about the horizontal; dorsal head profile convex above eyes, slightly concave between eyes; snout profile straight; mouth of moderate size; maxilla not extending to vertical at anterior margin of eye; outer oral teeth short, stout and bicuspid; inner oral teeth tricuspid; 3 series of scales on cheek; eye small; upper margin of eye not touching dorsal head profile; lower pharyngeal jaw wide; all pharyngeal teeth small and slender; gill-rakers on lower limb relatively long (Ref. 55898).Coloration: Preserved: body brownish yellow; 7 vertical bars below dorsal fin, only visible on dorsal part of body; nape, snout and lips dark brown; dorsal fin brown with dark lappets and tips; caudal and anal fins grey; ventral fin yellowish (Ref. 55898).
