Found in main rivers and lakes (Ref. 56749). Occurs in sluggish rivers and floodplains. Grows to a fairly large size and is probably the most common species of this family, seen in the markets. Feeds on insects, crustaceans, and small fish (Ref. 12693). Used as feeds for caged fishes (Ref. 56749).

Hàbitat

És un peix d'aigua dolça, demersal i de clima tropical (18°C-25°C).[6][10]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba a Cambodja, Indonèsia, Laos, Malàisia, Tailàndia i el Vietnam, incloent-hi les conques dels rius Mekong i Chao Phraya.[11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26]

Ús comercial

És present als mercats locals.[6]

Observacions

Cá sơn bầu (Danh pháp khoa học: Parambassis wolffii) là một loài cá trong họ Ambassidae thuộc bộ cá vược[1] Chúng là loài bản địa của Thái LanIndonesia.

Đặc điểm

Thân cá cao, mình dẹp, cuốn đuôi thon dài, đầu chúng lớn vừa, mõm ngắn, miệng trên, xiên, rạch miệng kéo dài đến viền trước mắt, chúng có một hàng răng nhỏ nhọn trên mỗi hàm, mắt to tròn, nằm lệch về nữa trên của đầu, khoảng cách 2 mắt cong lồi, xương trên lộ rõ ra nhỏ hơn đường kính mắt.

Toàn thân màu trắng trong, hơi ửng hồng, vây lưng, vây ngực và vây bụng có màu trăng trong. Vây lưng nhọn, gai thứ hai to và cao nhất, phía trước vây lưng có một gai cứng không cử động được, phần ngọn hướng ra phía trước. Vẩy tròn, lớn vừa, phủ khắp thân, má và nắp mang.
