The Ethiopian vlei rat (Otomys typus) is a species of vlei rat in the rodent family Muridae. It is found only in Ethiopia and is considered endemic.
Heuglin (1877) initially described the species under the name Oreomys typus.[1][2] This species classification and that of the genus Otomys varied extremely throughout the years. Taylor et al. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland, and subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland.[1]
It is said to be common.[1]
