Plants annual, 30-50 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect or basally ascending, green, striate, succulent, branched, basal nodes with many fibrous roots. Leaves alternate; petiole 2.5-4 cm, with 1 or 2 pairs of stipitate glands apically; leaf blade pale purple abaxially, green adaxially, elliptic-ovate, 5-12 × 2.5-4 cm, membranous, lateral veins 5 or 6 pairs, curved, base cuneate, gradually attenuate into petiole, margin coarsely crenate-serrate, teeth mucronulate, apex shortly caudate or acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, subracemose, 2-4-flowered; peduncles shorter than leaves, slender. Pedicels 1-1.5 cm, slender, elongate at fruiting, bracteate at base; bracts caducous, purple, elliptic-ovate, 5-7 × 3-4 mm, thinly membranous, abaxially inconspicuously carinate, base cuneate, apex conspicuously mucronulate. Flowers purple, 2.5-3 cm in diam. Lateral sepals 2, oblong-ovate, 5-6(-7) × 4-5 mm, 5- or 6-veined, apex conspicuously mucronulate. Lower sepal narrowly funnelform, gradually narrowed into an incurved or slightly curved spur 2-2.5 cm; mouth oblique, 8-10 mm, tip conspicuously mucronulate. Upper petal suborbicular, ca. 0.8 × 1-1.2 cm, base subcordate or rounded, apex retuse, curved rostellate, abaxial midvein narrowly carinate; lateral united petals not clawed, ca. 1.5 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes oblong-ovate, small, apex acute; distal lobes broadly dolabriform, ca. 1.5 cm wide, apex emarginate; auricle inflexed, subreniform. Filaments linear; anthers small, obtuse. Ovary erect, fusiform, ca. 2 mm. Capsule subclavate-linear, 1.5-1.8 cm. Seeds few, brown, oblong, rugose. Fl. and fr. Jun.
