Rhododendron afghanicum Aitch.

A small shrub; branches scaly. Leaves lanceolate to oblong, 3-4 cm long, coriaceous, glabrous above, scaly below. Flowers in clusters of 10-15. Calyx lobes + orbicular, scaly, 1.5-3.5 mm long. Corolla 6-12 mm long, campanulate, greenish-white, glabrous. Stamens 10, exserted; lower parts of the filaments hairy. Ovary 5-locular; style long curved. Capsule ovate to oblong, scaly, 7-8 mm long.

Distribution: Endemic in Kurram and the adjoining areas in Afghanistan from 2000 to 3000 m. The Plants are said to be poisonous.
