Prangos pabularia Lindl.

A species found in the Northern mountainous region of the Himalayas and Baluchistan from 1-3000 m. Plants in Swat grow at a lower altitude and have filiform leaf segments while those from Kashmir have linear leaf segments.

Plants c. 1 m tall. Leaves glabrous or papillose, 4-6-pinnate; segments fili¬form to linear, 1-3 cm long. Involucre of 5-6 linear bracts. Rays 10-15, stout, 4-10 cm long in the fruiting stage. Involucel of 5-6 linear bractlets. Calyx teeth usually conspicuous. Flowers pedicels 5 mm long. Petals yellow. Fruit oblong, 1-1.5 cm long; ridges broad, undulate, 8-10 times transversely folded; vittae minute, numerous. Inner seed face fusiform in outline, deeply grooved; groove T-shaped.

Distribution: Afghanistan, USSR, Baluchistan in W. Pakistan and the Hima¬layas.
