Shrubs, 0.5–2 m tall; old branches deep gray, branches stout and straight; young shoots densely gray-white-pubescent and spreading-hispid. Petiole 3–6 mm, pubescent; leaf blade tough-papery, oblong, oblong-lanceolate, or elliptic, 3–9 × 1–2.5 cm; base broadly cuneate or rounded; margin not revolute; apex acute, or acuminate, apiculate; abaxial surface scales dense, brown, densely gray-white-hispid along veins; adaxial surface densely pubescent and sparsely long hispid; midrib and lateral veins raised abaxially, concave adaxially. Inflorescence subterminal, umbellate, 2- or 3-flowered; bud scales densely scaly. Pedicel 1–1.4 cm, yellow-scaly, densely pubescent mixed with long hispid hairs; calyx lobes 5, 4–6 mm, oblong-lanceolate, scaly, densely pubescent; corolla broadly funnelform, 5-lobed to below middle, white or pink, 1.5–2.3 cm, tube shorter than lobes; outer surface sparsely glandular-scaly; lobes spreading; stamens 10, unequal, long ones nearly as long as corolla; filaments pubescent below or glabrous; ovary 5-locular, scaly, densely gray-white hirsute; style exserted from corolla, base pubescent or nearly glabrous. Capsule cylindric, 5–8 mm, scaly, pubescent. Fl. Feb–Apr.
