Erect scabrid herb. Leaves opposite or subopposite (inflorescence bracts alternate), scabrid. Inflorescences of lax cymose panicles; also individual capitula may occur in the forks of the branches. Capitula heterogamous, radiate; ray-florets fertile; disk-florets bisexual and fertile. Phyllaries subequal. Receptacular scales folded and enclosing the florets. Ray-florets with a minute (< 2 mm) 2-3-fid ligule. Anther-bases obtuse or sagittate below. Achenes trigonous. Pappus of 2-3 stout barbellate bristles arising from an entire narrow cupule.

Blainvillea is a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae.[2][3] They are native to tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Australia, and Latin America.[1]

They are annual or perennial herbs. The flower heads contain small ray florets with toothed tips, usually yellow, or occasionally white. The genus name honors French naturalist Henri Marie Ducrotay de Blainville.[4]
