Annual. Leaf lamina broad. Inflorescence a terminal cluster of racemes; rhachis internodes thickened, clavate, glabrous. Spikelets of each pair markedly different; the sessile fertile, the pedicellate 0, represented by a flattened pedicel. Sessile spikelet dorsally flattened; lower floret male; lower glume coarsely rugose; upper rugose; upper lemma 2-fid with a glabrous awn.
