Diceroprocta azteca is known from Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas (U.S.A.), as well as Mexico. It inhabits several habitats but is primarily associated with desert grasslands. Sanborn & Phillips (2013) reported finding it calling from mesquite (Prosopis spp.) and grasses and it has been associated with various trees, weeds, and bushes. (Sanborn & Phillips 2013)
