A tall shrub with thin, elongate, stongly zig-zag branches with grey to whitish branches, swollen and knotty at the nodes. Leaves virtually absent. Flowers in loose clusters, white to pink. Perianth segments 5. Fruit 20-27 mm across. Nut elliptic, twisted, attenuate at the apex, 6-8 mm long, 3-5 mm broad, setose, setae usually 8-seriate, 9-12 mm long, dilated at the base, not originating from the defined wings but directly from the quadrangular fruit, subconnate, thin, soft, 2-3 times dichotomously branched above the middle, dark brown or becoming pale.
