Perennial or rarely annual herbs with 40 – 60 (-70) cm tall, sulcate stems from woody rootstock. Leaves cauline or radical, 1 – 9 (-13) cm long including petioles, 2-pinnatisect into linear, acute ultimate segments, silky tomentose on both sides. Capitula discoid, 2 – 3 (-4) cm across, on 1.5 – 3 cm long peduncles, in terminal corymbs of 6 – 10 (-12). Involucre 4-seriate, phyllaries membranous-margined, softly tomentose, woolly or pubescent. Receptacle convex, rarely flat. Ray-florets absent. Disc-florets yellow, with 2 – 4 mm long, 5-toothed corolla tube. Cypselas pale-brown, 1 – 1.5 (-3) mm long, glandular. Pappus a uniform corona.
