Xylanthemum macropodum (Hemsl. & Lace) K. Bremer & C. J. Humphries

Erect shrublet, with several, 30 – 40 cm tall, slender, monocephalous, sulcate-striate, leafy to median part, glabrescent, upright stems from upright, branched rootstock. Leaves dense below, somewhat rosette-like, grayish-hairy to glabrescent, basal on 1.5 – 3.5 cm long, hairy petioles, lamina oblong, as long as petiole, 1 – 2 cm broad, , 1-2-pinnatisect into rigid, linear, 8 – 10 x c. 1 mm, mucronulate ultimate segments, middle stem leaves ± sessile, unipinnatisect into linear, 6 – 8 mm long, mucronate ultimate segments, upper leaves smaller, linear, entire, glabrous. Capitula solitary, terminal, 8 – 10 mm across, several per plant, on c. 12 – 15 cm long peduncles. Involucre somewhat spherical, phyllaries 3-4-seriate, tightly imbricate, ovate-elliptic, 5 – 6 mm long, externally ± purpureous, hyaline scarious and lacerate on margins and apices. Florets bisexual, yellow, with 3 – 4 mm long, punctate glandular, 5-toothed corolla tube. Cypselas linear-oblong, c. 3 mm long, 5-ribbed, glabrous, eglandular. Pappus unilateral, auriculate, c. 2 mm long, hyaline, entire.

Distribution: Endemic to Pakistan (Balochistan).

Fl. Per.: May-June.

Frequent in Northwestern Balochistan in Juniper forest, along semi-dry wadi slopes in sandy and gravelly soils.
