Plants annual, 40-70 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect, yellow-green, often purple spotted, robust, succulent, simple, long naked in lower part. Leaves alternate, crowded at apex of stem; petiole 2.6-6 cm, purple spotted; leaf blade greenish abaxially, dark green adaxially, elliptic or oblong-elliptic, 9-18 × 5-7 cm, thickly membranous, lateral veins 16-21 pairs, base cuneate, with 2 sessile ovoid glands, margin serrulate, apex shortly acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 2-flowered, rarely l-flowered; peduncles short, ca. 3 mm. Pedicels 1-1.5 cm, elongate in fruit, slender, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, triangular-ovate, small, ca. 3 mm, membranous. Flowers purplish, 1.6-2.2 cm in diam. Lateral sepals 4, purple spotted; outer 2: broadly elliptic or suborbicular, 0.9-1.2 × 0.7-0.9 cm, 9-11-veined, margin entire, apex mucronulate; inner 2: lanceolate, 2.5-4 mm. Lower sepal purple spotted, broadly funnelform, 1.8-2.2 cm deep, narrowed into an incurved, 2-lobed spur ca. 6 mm; mouth oblique, ca. 1.7 cm wide, tip mucronulate. Upper petal obovate-oblong, 1.3-1.8 × 0.9-1.1 cm, apex retuse, abaxial midvein carinate; lateral united petals clawed, 2.2-2.8 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular; distal lobes suborbicular, ca. 2.2 × 1 cm, apex emarginate, mucronulate. Filaments linear, ca. 1 mm; anthers ovoid, apex obtuse. Ovary fusiform, ca. 7 mm. Capsule fusiform, 2.2-2.5 cm, slightly curved, 4-angled. Seeds 7 or 8, brown, orbicular, ca. 3.8 mm, papillose. Fl. and fr. unknown.
