Bordnamonas J. Larsen & D. J. Patterson 1990

Description of Bordnamonas

provided by BioPedia
Uncertain euglenozoa, swimming cell, two thick flagella arising in a subapical crease, one held in an arc in front of the cell, the other trailing behind. Coming to rest to feed, at which time an apical ingestion apparatus is used to detach particles of food which are attached to the substrate. Affinities suggested to lie with stramenopiles (because of swimming behaviour) or kinetoplastids (because of anterior mouth and the thick flagella). Marine, one species, B. tropicana Larsen & Patterson, 1990. (and - yes, it is named after the Irish Peat Marketing Board).
