Monomorphic, diplokaryotic; meronts divide by binary fission; isolated diplokaryotic sporonts with nuclei of unequal size lie in direct contact with host cell cytoplasm.; division by binary fission produce diplokaryotic sporoblasts; spores, 6 x 3 µm, are elongate ovoid and bear a gnarled caudal appendage, 18 µm long, covered by the exospore material and consisting of electron transparent material compartmentalized by exospore layers; nuclei are of unequal size; polaroplast has a uniformly flocculated structure, without lamellar component - although these characteristics are questioned; the polar tube tapers gradually from the tip toward the posterior end, forming 7-10 coils arranged in one rank; type species H. xerkophora Lom and Dykova, 1990 in coelomocytes of Nais christinae (Oligochaeta, Naididae).
