Diagnosis A large and robust Megaelosia with slightly granular dorsolateral skin. Snout rounded in dorsal view and in profile. Canthus rostralis evident and arcuated. Fold of fifth toe not reaching the outer metatarsal tubercle. Adult specimens having finger and toe tips with a pair of scutes fused to the subunguis. In juveniles the scutes are fused to the subunguis, but less than in the adults. Males with distinct bilateral vocal sacs and vocal slits.

Adult morphology A larger species. Males 100-114 mm, females 111-124 mm snout-vent length. Snout outline rounded from above, rounded-acute in profile; no cranial crests; no upper eyelid decoration; tympanum hidden, diameter about 1/3 eye diameter; single fang-like vomerine tooth on each odontophore lying between choanae; finger lengths ILarval morphology Body ovoid in dorsal and lateral view. Eyes small, dorsolateral; interorbital distance approximately three times eye diameter. Snout rounded; nostrils directed anterolaterally, about midway between eyes and tip of snout; internostril distance slightly less than interorbital distance. Spiracle sinistral, short; spiracular opening on midbody. Cloaca1 tube short and broad, opening dextrally. Tail deeper than body; dorsal fin slightly deeper than ventral fin. Dorsal and ventral fins thicker proximally. In dorsal view, caudal musculature well developed in the first half and laterally compressed from the middle to the tip of tail. Tip of tail rounded. Mouth directed anteroventrally; median region of upper lip lacking papillae; median region of lower lip bordered by one row of papillae; lips are bordered by two or three rows of papillae near the corners of the mouth; many-supplementary papillae present in the corners of the mouth. Labial tooth row formula 2(2)/3(1); upper and lower tooth rows adjacent to beak narrowly interrupted medially; all rows of teeth about equal in length. Beak strongly developed and serrate. Lateral line system composed by fourteen lateral lines, seven on each side of body and tail. Color in preservative: Dark brown dorsum and a pale brown venter; fins and caudal musculature pale brown with dark clustered blotches. Color in life: Dorsum pale brown with irregular dark spots; ventral surface bluish; terminal part of tail with dark clustered blotches. Measurements (in mm): total length 128, body length 48.0, body width 34.6, body depth 29.3, eye diameter 4.0, eye-nostril distance 6.2, inter-nostril distance 10.0, maximal caudal depth 34.0

Phantasmarana massarti is a species of frog in the family Hylodidae. It is endemic to Brazil. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and rivers.

It was formerly placed in the genus Megaelosia, but was reclassified to Phantasmarana in 2021.[2][3]
